File Extension TTF

What is a TrueType Font File?

The TTF file extension, known as TrueType Font, served as a standard of outline font and as a tool for keeping vector fonts. It is a technology of digital font, which provides displays of high quality in both printed documents and on screens. This technology contains the fonts or the letter descriptions and the rasterizer program in which the letters' descriptions are changed into raster illustrations for either printing or screen display.

The TTF format grants a high control degree to font developers on how over precisely their fonts are presented, exactly down to certain pixels, at different font heights. This font format can also be resized with any size of choice with no lose of quality. When printed, it appears the same as it looks on the screen.

This file extension format has been the most common for Windows and Mac OS even though both also contain support for the OpenType extension and Type 1 format of Adobe to TrueType format. That was since the release of Windows 2000 and Mac OS X 10.0. Most inexpensive or free third-party fonts apply plain TrueType despite that some fonts supported with these operating systems are now available in OpenType, a single-unified extension format of TrueType supported by both Adobe and Microsoft.

The systems of this file extension consist of a computer-generated machine that performs programs within the font, managing the glyphs' hints. These adjust the presentation of the outline font with the purpose of producing lesser undesirable features lying on the glyph using mathematical instructions. Grid fitting, an aspect of TTF hinting, modifies the width and height of the font characters so that it can align to the screen display's custom pixel grid. Such are the prerequisites of programming languages that the TTF hinting language offer: conditional branching by using IF statements, arbitrary looping with couple of times by using WHILE- and FOR-type statements, summarization of code to become functions and variables.
